SALIENT FEATURES (ARRIVING / SAILING)
ANCHORAGE LOADING IS ALSO CARRIED OUT AT OUTER ANCHORAGE USING TRANFER VESSELS (T/V). THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS FOR VESSEL LOADING AT OUTER ANCHORAGE, HOWEVER  MAXIMUM AIR DRAFT OF THE MOTHER VESSEL IS TO BE KNOWN DEPENDING ON THE AVAILABILITY OF THE TRANSFER VESSELS.
APPROACH IT IS AN OPEN-TYPE HARBOUR PROTECTED BY A BREAKWATER AND ALSO BY A MOLE BUILT EASTWARD FROM THE OUTER END OF THE BREAKWATER RUNNING PARALLEL TO THE  QUAY. THIS AFFORDS PROTECTION FROM TURBULENT SEA DURING THE S-W MONSOON. THE PORT IS SERVED BY TWO MAJOR NAVIGABLE RIVERS ZUARI AND MANDOVI, WHICH ARE ALSO INTERCONNECTED BY CUMBARJUA CANAL. THE NAVIGATIONAL CHANNEL CONNECTING THE OPEN SEA WITH THE HARBOUR IS ABOUT 5 KM. IN LENGTH, 250M IN WIDTH AND 13.7 M. DEEP WITH A TURNING BASIN OF ABOUT 480 M. DIAMETER LOCATED EAST OF THE MOLE, AND MARKED BY LIGHTED BUOYS.
TIDES THE STRENGTH OF THE CURRENT EITHER AT FLOOD OR EBB DOES NOT GENERALLY EXCEED 1 KNOT. SWELL/WAVES DURING THE FAIR SEASON RARELY EXCEED 2M. IN THE OPEN  SEA, THE DIRECTION BEING MAINLY TOWARDS THE WEST AND N-W. HOWEVER, DURING THE MONSOON, THE SWELL/WAVES GO UPTO 3M., THE DIRECTION BEING MAINLY FROM THE S-W. NORMAL WIND FORCE VARIES FROM 4-7 ON THE BEAUFORT SCALE.
WEATHER THERE ARE TWO DISTINCT SEASONS – THE FAIR SEASON FROM OCTOBER TO MAY, AND THE MONSOON FROM JUNE TO SEPTEMBER, DURING WHICH AN AVERAGE 250 CMS OF RAINFALL IS REGISTERED.
PILOTAGE PILOTAGE IS COMPULSORY. PILOTAGE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED ROUND THE CLOCK WITH PRIOR ADVICE TO THE HARBOUR MASTER. VESSEL AFTER REPORTING CAN CONTACT  ON CALL SIGN “GOA PORT” ON CH – 16. DURING MONSOON SEASON PILOTAGE IS AVAILABLE DURING NIGHT TIME SUBJECT TO WEATHER  CONDITION.
